<intro>
Clemson senior running back C.J. Spiller racked up a career-high as well as a ACC season-best 312 all-purpose yards on Saturday against Florida State and he was named this week’s Atlantic Coast Conference Offensive Back of the Week.

The honor is Spiller’s first Offensive Back of the Week selection, but he has been named the ACC’s Specialist of the Week twice already due to his kickoff and punt return prowess.

Spiller rushed for a career-high 165 yards on 22 carries at an average of 7.5 yards per rushing attempt, caught three passes for 67 yards, including a 58-yard touchdown, and he also totaled 71 yards on three kickoff returns in Clemson’s 40-24 win against Florida State.

Overall, Spiller totaled a school-record 312 all-purpose yards, which is tops in the ACC this season for any player.

In addition to his 58-yard touchdown reception, Spiller rushed for a five-yard touchdown run to clinch the win for the Tigers, and he has scored at least one touchdown in all nine of Clemson’s games so far this season.

Spiller had a career-high 165 yards rushing in the game and his 20th touchdown of at least 50 yards during his college career. He is a threat from anywhere on the field and has scored touchdowns rushing, receiving, and on kickoff and punt returns this season.

Spiller and the Tigers are now in control and took its biggest step yet toward an Atlantic Coast Conference title with the victory over Florida State on Saturday night, and currently leads the ACC’s Atlantic Division with a 6-3 record. They hold the tiebreaker over Boston College, also with a 6-3 record, because they beat BC a few weeks back.

Clemson still has two ACC games left against North Carolina State and Virginia.

Spiller, the Tigers' star senior do everything player, caught a 58-yard Touchdown pass from quarterback Kyle Parker and, with 312 all-purpose yards, surpassed the school record of 310 all-purpose yards which he set in Clemson's 40-37 overtime win at Miami two weeks ago.

He also closed Clemson's fifth victory over Florida State in the past seven meetings with a high-stepping, 5-yard touchdown run as the orange-clad fans rocked Death Valley.

Clemson's defense pitched in too in the contest, intercepting ACC passing leader Christian Ponder four times in the game.

Florida State had hoped to get an energetic effort from a defense that had struggled all year after longtime defensive coordinator Mickey Andrews announced he was leaving after the season.

Instead, Spiller ran through and around the Seminoles for a record setting performance. He had earlier become the school's all-time pass catcher among running backs and he and track partner, receiver Jacoby Ford, broke an NCAA mark for all-purpose yardage by teammates, bettering the 10,253 yards of Marshall Faulk and Darnay Scott of San Diego State from 1991-93.

Once the game was over, the fans rushed Frank Howard Field, fondly known as Death Valley, with the sense that Clemson could finally be closing in on an ACC championship.

I find it very hard to believe that after Spillers performance this season that he is not one of the front-runners for the Heisman Trophy, because no other player has put up numbers and been as important to his team as he has this season.
