Francisco Liriano pitched well Thursday for Leones in the Dominican Winter League final. Is this a sign of what Liriano could potentially do?
The Series between Leones and Gigantes for the Dominican Winter League Championship ended last night in San Francisco de Macoris. The series went down to the Ninth Game. Taking the mound for Leones was Francisco Liriano,Leones ace and Minnesota Twins Pitcher. Liriano was an all star for the Twins in 2006,but had a disapointing 2009.
Liriano pitched well from the get go for Leones.Liriano struck out ten Major and Minor League batters as he cruised for five innings. The biggest difference in Liriano's pitching has been that his velocity is around 95 mph on his fastball. The same as it was in 2006. Liriano only gave up one hit as Leones one the Dominican League championship.Liriano improved his record to3-1 in seven playoff starts and also has a 0.49 playoff ERA. Leones will play the champions of Puerto Rico,Mexico, and Venezuela in the Caribean Series starting February 2 in Margarita Island,Venezuela.
If Liriano continues to pitch well in the Caribean Series he may just be that much better next season. Will Liriano pitch well next season?Only time will tell.
