Say It Isn't So Sammy

A recent report has linked Sammy Sosa as one of the 104 names in the 2003 anonymous tests on steroid use in baseball.
On June 5, playerpress wrote an article "Sammy Sosa Assumptions". In that article, a strong case was made that Sosa deserved to be in the Hall of Fame because he had never been linked to steroids. In the comment section, I compared the accusations to the same trial that Shoeless Joe Jackson went through, in the same city, almost 90 years ago.
Portrayed in the movie "Eight Men Out", the young boy runs to the courthouse steps and begs "Say it ain't so, Joe." There are many good books on the 1919 Black Sox, and the betting scandal that banned the eight players for life, including Jackson. Some books even dispute the movie "Eight Men Out" as portraying Jackson in an unfavorable way.
However, the recent news on Sosa moves him out of the category of Jackson, who tried to plea for redemption for the rest of his life. Sosa now is linked with the others who have fallen in the steroid scandals. It raises another question about the 2003 tests. Although the players were promised anonymity, it seems that these names are going to be dragged out and through the mud, one at a time.
Would it be easier just to list the 104 names, and let the court of public opinion have it's say, then move on? Also, it would be a relief to those who are not on the list, and it would silence questions like "Do you think Player X was one of the 104 names?"
Instead, one by one, the baseball stars fall from the sky. It really is not a surprise anymore. It was big news when Alex Rodriguez was revealed as being one of the 104 names. But now, it's not really shocking. It's just sad. And it would be nice just to have all the names out there, read them and then see that it's time to move on.
