<intro>
Well here we are, already at week 8 of the 2009 NFL season. There have been numerous teams jumping around on this list in the last month. Some teams have remained on top, while others have risen and others have dropped. That is what makes the NFL great.

1. Saints (6-0) Last Month Ranking 3

Up until this past week, everyone wondered whether the Saints and their powerful offense would ever have to come back from behind in a game, and if they were actually capabale of doing that if the situation every came up. Well, it came up after being down by 21 points to the Dolphins and coming back to remain undefeated in week 7.

2. Colts (6-0) Last Month Ranking 4

Peyton Manning might possibly be having the best season of his stellar career and yet, why is it that the Colts, even while being undefeated seem to be the stealth team of the NFL as they always seem to fly under the radar and not get the attention that is deserved? If the streak continues, I am sure that you will be hearing more about the Colts then we have so far this season.

3. Broncos (6-0) Last Month Ranking 10

The Broncos current record surprises the hell out of me, especially when you look at the fact that Kyle Orton has fewer touchdown passes then 13 other NFL quarterbacks and fewer passing yards then 14 other NFL quarterbacks. Yet here they are at 6-0 and ranked number 3 on my list this month. However, the next few games will tell us if in fact the Broncos should be considered in the upper echelon of the NFL.

4. Patriots (5-2) Last Month Ranking 11

OK so the Pats beat up on the Titans and Buccaneers, both of who have yet to win a game this season. However, when you win those games by a combined score of 94-7, you just have to take this team very seriously as a major contender in the NFL this season. Tom Brady, well is having a Tom Brady year once again and that means that the Pats are back.

5. Steelers (5-2) Last Month Ranking 17

The Steelers defense looked like it finally showed up this past week in their victory over the Vikings. Big Ben out dueled Grampa Favre, even though the Steelers defense scored two touchdowns. They still are the defending champs and you just know they will be in the mix from week to week.

6. Vikings (6-1) Last Month Ranking 9

Yes, the Vikings are 6-1 and look to be rolling along in the NFC North. However, the play calling against the Steelers this past week proved that even with the talent this team has on its roster, I believe that they will begin to falter as the season moves forward. In addition, it still is a big question mark as to whether or not the old man Favre is going to last for the whole season. Heroics aside, he has been taking a beating in every game so far and I am not sure his body is going to be able to keep it up at this rate.

7. Bengals (5-2) Last Month Ranking 5

The Bengals could do no wrong against the Bears this past week and they currently are in second place on my most surprising teams so far this season, with the Broncos obviously being the first. The offense seems to be running on all cylinders, and the rest of the teams on their schedule this season really do not give them any cause for concern. MY bet is that they make it to the playoffs this season.

8. Cardinals (4-2) Last Month Ranking 18
After a slow start this season, I would have to say that it is pretty safe to say the defending NFC Champs are back to form. They also seem to have found a running back in first round draft pick Beanie Wells who has carried the load. If he continues to do so and provides an even balance between the run and the pass, then the Cardinals offense will just get even more potent and cause problems for their opposition.

9. Cowboys (4-2) Last Month Ranking 14

Tony Romo has finally found his favorite receiver to take T.O.’s place in rising star Miles Austin. Their running game has always been efficient and everyone worried with the loss of T.O. the passing game would suffer. It did for a little bit to start the season, but with Austin and Patrick Crayton, who is also doing a good job, everyone is wondering where supposed number one receiver Roy Williams has been.

10. Giants (5-2) Last Month Ranking 2

Sure, the Giants have lost two in a row, but they still have a good team and I do not think that these past two games all of a sudden mean that the G-Men are going to fall flat on their faces and all of a sudden fall into the bottom 10 of the list. This week they will need to get back on track against the division rival Eagles and if they do not, I just may change my tune.

11. Falcons (4-2) Last Month Ranking 16

The Falcons always seem to play a lot better in the dome in Atlanta, then they do when they are on the road. I still cannot figure out why they have a dome to begin with. The Falcons are two games behind the Saints in the NFC South and they play them in New Orleans this week. If they cannot figure out a way to beat the Saints on the road this week, it is going to be real tough to have a chance at winning the division and the possibility for a home playoff game will be a pipe dream.

12. Eagles (4-2) Last Month Ranking 12
The Eagles have not beaten a quality team yet this season and have even lost to a non-quality team in the Raiders. Their offense has not looked good at all the last two games, and has been saved by a good defense and the fact that DeSean Jackson has made some big plays. If they can beat the Giants this week, then maybe they could gain a little respectability.

13. Packers (4-2) Last Month Ranking 13

Three of the Packers 4 wins have come against three of the worst teams in the NFL. Their 4th win, although it was in game one of the season came against the Bears, who actually dominated that game but the Pack had one big play at the end to win it. Until the Packers can play a good consistent game against a good team, I do not believe in them. All hype and no action. This week will be interesting though as the Vikings and Favre come to town. Should be interesting to say the least.

14. Texans (4-3) Last Month Ranking NR

The Texans have a ton of talent on their roster and if they can ever play a consistent game from start to finish, they should give other teams a lot of problems. Steve Slaton has been very good, but he needs to hold onto to the football better. They also need to improve their pass defense.

15. Jets (4-3) Last Month Ranking 1

The Jets have been up and down so far this season from week to week. However, they have over 600 rushing yards the past two weeks and if they can keep that up then Mark Sanchez will not have to take the team on his shoulders which is always difficult for a rookie quarterback.

16. Bears (3-3) Last Month Ranking 8

The Bears were horrid this past week against the Bengals. It was definitely a Murphy game. What could go wrong, did go wrong, and it went wrong often in this game for the Bears. They should turn it around at home this week against the Browns. They do have some concerns with the offensive line, so it will be interesting to see if Lovie Smith makes any changes there.

17. 49ers (3-3) Last Month Ranking 6

The Niners started out fast this season but have fallen off the past few weeks. I think the change from Shaun Hill to Alex Smith was the right thing to do. However, I do not think that it is going to be a dramatic difference, although it will probably be better. It will probably be rough going this week as the Niners take on the Colts in Indianapolis.

18. Ravens (3-3) Last Month Ranking 7

It has been difficult to figure out this Ravens team this season. Their defense has not been as consistent as in years past. I think that in the next two weeks, they will either rise dramatically on this list or drop out of it completely like an anvil in water. With last week off, if the defense has taken care of its problems, my bet would be they will be rising.

19. Jaguars (3-3) Last Month Ranking NR

The Jaguars still remain in a good spot for a playoff berth in the AFC and their next two games against the Titans and the Chiefs should help give them a lift. They are a confident team but after the next two weeks, the games will get a lot tougher as they will be playing the Jets and the Texans

20. Chargers (3-3) Last Month Ranking 15

The Chargers player well this past week, but here is another team that is inconsistent from week to week. In order to move up on this list they will need to play every game the way that they played this past week.
